American Coach: 2008 AC AT 40z - How to remove radio?

Hello all,

I have a new to me American Tradition 40z. I want to remove and replace the Navion R5000 radio and replace it with aftermarket. Does anyone know the answers to the following questions?

1. The radio appears to be mounted in a tray. I can get to a thumbscrew on the driver side, but can't seem to get to the one on the other side. It is inaccessible from the cabinet underneath. Do I have to remove the dash face to get to it?
2. The new radio has a single Video (RCA) input. Anybody know what the connectors are coming from the camera? According to the manual, they look to be 6-pin round.
3. Is there a video mux that people use to hook up (3) cameras to one RCA input or do I have to design one?

Usually the dash face needs to be removed. Then using a slim jim piece of metal, you insert it between the DIN2 case and the body of the old radio and depress the latch. Pull it out 1/2" then move to the other side. Walking back and forth to fully remove the radio. Usually, these radios don't have 'thumb screws' on the sides. They use the standard DIN setup that you can find drawings of on the internet or see in person at a radio shop.

DIN2 is 2X the size of DIN and is often found in RVs because they have the space for a double sized radio. If you hover your mouse cursor over this drawing, you'll see the tabs you need the slim jim for to unlatch the radio and pull it out. Other DIN cases by other manufacturers are similar.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the R5000 isn't a standard double din radio.

I think that the dash trim has to come off, but I'm not exactly sure how to do that :/

I believe that there is a tool that has two prongs. Takes two one on each side. Looks like the holes for the prongs are located on the sides. I didn’t have the tool. Took 4 pieces of #12 solid copper wire. Bent them el shaped. Inserted one in each hole. Pushed each in a little to release latch and pulled out the radio.

Walmart sells the prong tool. Also, call Crutchfield and buy from them. Their tech help is the best and by the time you get all their extra installation stuff that comes with it, it is completely competitive with anyone else.
Mine was a 1.5 din and they helped me to cut out the hole so that a 2 din radio slipped right in.
Love the CarPlay (or Android Auto) and every thing about it. Go Crutchfield Go!

Have you been around swapping headunit finally?

No, I am going to wait till after the new year. I'm going to make a circuit board so that I can plug in the existing cameras and still select between them with only the one input on the head unit.
