2012-2015 discovery 40g owners opinions needed as well as buy your last coach first
I own a 32 fleetwood 2006 32 foot that we have just simply outgrown with a family of six. I have been researching for the last year palazzo, excursion, legacy, Berkshire, and expedition. I thought if I could get the entry pushers below 140k purchase I would feel good about it and they would be an upgrade for sure. Some deals are popping up on all the entry diesels but when I walk through them I can't get the disco 40g out of my mind even with the 50-60 k increase. I don't want to make a mistake by under or overbuying as I want this to be our last coach with the kids so I need it last 10-15 years. I would love to input on 40g with the current isl9 chassis

We are very happy with our 40X, would not hesitate to buy another Discovery. Of the other coaches you listed, the only one that I can say RUN dont walk from is the Thor Palazzo. Having previously owned a 2013 Thor, I would not own one if it was free. Comparing a Palazzo to a Discovery is like comparing a stripped down Hyundai to a fully loaded Mercedes.

The 40 series Disco is very, very nice for the price range. I know the 40G is a rarity, so to speak, so used they are still pretty high. I would stay in the 2012 or newer range.
That being said, I looked at ALL your above choices and just could not get the 40G out of our minds. And I am glad we went forward with our 2013 40G. It is everything the others are and more. We are sleeping in ours tonight as my family is in town and I was looking at the wood, the finish, and the amenities thinking what a good choice we made. I believe the extra $$$ was worth it. Some differences: Washer and dryer, 3 A/Cs, nicely appointed cabinets with felt lining, in-motion sat, 380HP ISC.....to name a few. These can be added to the others, but not the ISC.
The bunks room is nicer than the others as well. We can open it up or close it off. Very nice. And there is an option to make the bunk room an office for when the kids move out. We can sleep 4 like kings and 8 comfortably. The driving, passenger comfort, and camping pleasures of the 40G make it a top $200K choice and far better appointed than your other choices in the O/P.

We love our 40G. I researched the same other units you mentioned for a long time. Couldn't be happier with our decision. It's even been pleasant working with fleetwood warranty.
The kids love their bunk area and my wife loves the upgrades over the Berkshire and Expedition.

Not to completely hijack this thread, but for the Discovery owners and specifically the 40g owners, do you feel that you could live part-time in this model with 2 small kids while on the road for work. In particular, I am TDY in the Northern Virginia area so how does it hold up to the winter weather as far as heating goes (and probably cooling in the warm summers)? I like this floorplan since you have the ability to close off the bunk area to make it like a "bedroom".
Thanks in advance!

The last year you could get a brand new Discovery for that price.
Was in 1999.
A 2015 Discovery starts out at $280,230
First year for a 40G with bunk beds was 2011.
A 2011 used one is between 148-179K
2012 173-208K
2013 186-224K

Just bought a 2015 Discovery 40E for $195k +TTL in Mesa AZ. Aside from the normal minor bugs it was a major upgrade from a '11 Bounder. Especially in power, handling ride, & amenities. Never was a DP fan due to excessive maintenance costs, so I bought new to avoid other persons abuse & lack of maint. I also wanted the warranties. Dealer wanted $19k for extended warranty then $14k, then $9k. I decided not take it and to save it up myself. I do most of my own work.

We bought a Discovery 40X and could not be happier!! I do my own maintainence and it has been very good to us! I say go big and get what you really want because you will loose thousands not buying your true desire first and trading up later when everything else fails your expectations!

Thanks for the input, now I am waiting for 2016 info to publish on fleetwood.com to make sure no major changes are happening...

We love our Excursion 35 C but I can't imagine it would be big enough for a family of 6. In fact, I can't imagine anything being big enough
If 140 is your price point I would think you'd be able to get something 2012 ish with bunks, 1-1/2 baths etc in a DP. My coach was 129 new, but it was a 2014 leftover we got this January.
Good luck

here is a link to a dealer that has a 2015 and 2016
As FW did changes in 2014 doubt there would be anything significant for 2016
