2013 Fleetwood Excursion storage door locks

I had a brief conversation with a RV mechanic at my storage facility today and he mentioned that it is not uncommon for the latches on my basement storage compartments to fail and that it's not a bad idea to have an extra. I should have taken pictures of the latches or at least measured them before I dropped the RV off, but I didn't.

I assume these latches are pretty common across Fleetwood and I would guess just about every other make/model in the "financial class" of an Excursion. Is this the latch that replaces the one I have? I assume someone on this forum has replaced these latches before?

Thanks!

This is the one I have. We did break one, used a screwdriver to hold it closed until the knew one came.

The exterior portion depicted in your link rarely breaks but, yes, every so often I hear of the pivot breaking. But that is rare and I always envision someone unlatching a stuck door and yanking repeatedly to open it!

What does break occasionally is the cheap plastic plunger that engages the metal hoops on either side. I've never had one break in 4+ years owning this coach, but early on I learned to not slam the bin doors.

You can replace just the plunger with a quality aluminum one. I know several people who have replaced a number of them and carry them as spares. You can get them from

Usually it's just the plunger that breaks from slamming the door. I purchased mine at Amazon and have a spare.
