I have bucked a few cross-winds and found there was more sway induced by my over-correcting than what was really out there. The Excursion really WANTS you to relax when you drive it.
Have crossed some pretty gnarly passes and gone up some stiff grades and found the rig, as mentioned, hunkers down and gets the job done. May not be flying up the mountain but I'm getting there in a quiet, smooth ride and my temps show I'm not straining - just going a bit slower. Our tow is a very light 3350lb Jeep Patriot.
We tend to stay off the interstates for the most part so we're very much interested in the shocks as the road we travel are a bit more bumpy. Economical and comfort wise we've found around 1500-1800 rpm (speed 58-62) suits best.
Really wish the DEF tank and coach battery placement had been better thought out though.

Lvrvluvr: The original stereo in your rig, was it the Pioneer? I want to take mine out to remote the USB port on it but can seem to figure out the dismantling. Any ideas?

I took mine to the stereo shop... there was some little metal tools in the owners package...
also if all you want to do is get to the back, the plastic above the speedo comes right off
