2015 Discovery 40E question

I recently became the proud owner of a new Discovery 40E and love it!. The floor plan is ideal for us. However, when traveling (slide outs in) the position of the table top is a real problem and I think also a potential hazard in an accident. Has anyone made any modifications or have any suggestions to improve this situation? (Maybe remove it while traveling??} Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome,
I don't think it can be removed and for us it isn't an issue other than suck in the stomach when going around it.

I don't like that either. I was looking at making it removable with some quick disconnects.

I don't know what table you have. On my 2010 I have the large booth dinette with telescoping table. There is a lever underneath that allows you to rotate the table for travel and slides in. If it is the same set up, give it a try. If not....well....nevermind.

[/IMG]The new 40E has the table coming out of the entertainment cabinet. It seats two and then pulls further out to seat 4 (really thin people) when the coach is "in" the table even when pushed in only gives you a minimal walkway

I don't know how handy you are, but if you have good carpentry skills you could cut the table about 18" back and install a piano hinge to rejoin the two sections. You would also need to install two drop leaf slides underneath the table to support the droppable section when in the up position. If you decide to do this, clamp a guide to the table (remove the table from the RV first) to run a circular saw along. Get the finest toothed (highest tooth count) carbide tipped blade you can buy and cut with the table upside down (with the top corian surface down so the blade doesn't chip the corian). Also tape the corian side along the cut line (blue masking tape) to further prevent chipping. After the cut is made I'd smooth the edges with silicon carbide sandpaper, giving a vert slight bevel to the edges. If you don't feel comfortable cutting the corian (it cuts pretty easily) you could take it to a countertop shop and have them cut it. Then you would just have to screw on the drop leave slides.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I wouldn't say that I was that much of a carpenter but my son-in-law probably is. i will talk to him about it and see what he thinks. Thanks again!
