2015 Discovery Slide leaks and slide membrane problem

So we had our new Discovery out for its shakedown cruise and had a chance to try it out in a pretty decent rainstorm. Unfortunately, the driver side living room slide leaks. We had cabinet that was just soaked, and water dripping down the vinyl padded trim in front of the cabinets. We drained at least 5 cups of water out of that vinyl alone.

It appears water is leaking around screw holes for the cabinets, and has been for some time.

Here is the crazy thing - when I inspected the driver side rear bedroom slide, I found the top rubber membrane had completely pulled loose. This slide didn't leak, but this has to be fixed. I looked at the top of the living room slide (the one that did leak) and it appears the same thing has happened.

I called Fleetwood and they said that I could either take it to my local dealer (La Mesa) or to the Factory. Does anyone know the magnitude of this repair? Do they have to remove both slide outs? If so, I'm thinking the factory might be better even though its an 8 hour drive (each way).

2015 Discovery Slide leaks and slide membrane problem

Sorry you had trouble.

Following since we also have a '15 Discovery. Sounds like a pretty extensive repair. I think I'd be going to the factory

So the dealership is going to take a look and let me know what they think the size of the repair will be. If its as big as I suspect, I'll be taking it to the factory. When I spoke with Fleetwood, they said they would check on the factory schedule but that it might take "months" to get an appointment. Months?? Ouch.

The big problem is going to be the cabinets. They are vinyl wrapped and im sure the press board underneath has swelled and turned to mush in areas. I would make sure Fleetwood replaces the cabinets effected as well anything in the ceiling. To me I wouldnt be comfortable unless the roof of the slide was opened up, dryed out and any wood replaced. That is waaay too much water to just reseal and call it a day. I had a P trap fall off while going down the road one time. Didnt notice it until I was doing dishes and water started running out from under the kitchen cabinet. Most had been caught in a tub I had under the sink to hold cleaning supplies but once it over flowed, it came out under the base of the cabinet. Although I caught it right away and dried the area thoroughly, The front facia of the cabinet at the base turned to mush. Im having a cabinet maker friend of mine make an entire new cabinet front for the kitchen and reuse the doors. The one thing I will never do again is buy a coach that doesnt have all real wood cabinets. Cant stand sawdust and contact paper cabinets. It looks like that edging in your pic has already swelled and cracked the vinyl wood grained covering. Did you check the outer end of the slide and see if the roofing material was pulled away causing it to bunch up in the area you show in the picture?

Here's my take,

This looks to be a major repair, no way no how would I want to have a dealer make the repair, and no way no how would I let La Mesa work on it.

1) Schedule the repair with the Factory, advise them that once they have everything there to do the repair you will bring it in.

2) Make them aware that they are on the hook for any more damage from now till then (mold is what I would e worried about)

3) If you do have the dealer repair this same thing applies, all parts are there before you bring it in and then they have a time limit to complete the repairs, no more.

Six month factory wait!?!

So Fleetwood agreed the dealer should not be the one doing the repairs. They contacted the factory service center in Coburg OR ( the closest one to me) and asked the Coburg scheduler to find me a time. Coburg called today and said - and I am not making this up - the first opening is July 25th.

[Moderator Edit] Six months? Even before I could call Feetwood back, Fleetwood contacted me and said they were working on Plan B. They knew six months is ridiculous. No idea what plan B is, but I will find out soon.

Fleetwood found an alternate

Fleetwood - who has been great to work with - found an alternate repair-only center a couple of hours from me. They can't get me in until March 15th, but that's better than July!

If that was a "new" unit I think I would have been asking for it to be replaced with another unit. That's pretty sad for a new one. Way beyond a loose panel or door out of adjustment. Hope they get it all corrected for you soon.
