why did they lower the HP from 380 to 360 this year?
i am looking to buy one and thais puzzles me, because 2 different dealers have the same price, the 2017 has 8,000miles and the 2015 has about 30,000
i appreciate your input, very MUCH

We have the 2015 37R with the 380hp and 22K miles. Not sure I would worry about the mileage as it runs like the day we bought without a doubt. I find it odd they downgraded to 360hp as mine has the 8.9L and they don’t make it in the 360hp version as far as I’m aware of?

We did uprate our engine to 450hp but it was actually doing just fine with the 380hp rating. I just want more power because I’m an old gear head and not because it needed it.

I would double check those 2017 numbers and make sure it’s not a mistake in the add. If it’s a 360hp rated engine, it likely has the 6.7L engine and you may wish you had a little extra oomph if you tow and are in the mountains but you may be just fine too? Everybody has a different driving style and power requirement but you will get there satisfactorily with either setup.

Good luck!

Ed

Thanks

When you increased the HP to 450, did it increase the torque by 20%, as well?
Did you uprate by using one of those chips?
Thanks
Jim

Sorry for the delay.....

The original 8.9L engine was 380hp/1150tq.

The Cummins flash to the ECM made it 450hp/1250tq.

Good luck on your decision.

Thank you, that helps me better understand the chart i saw of the relationship between torque and hp, recently.
i just my SUV from Tulsa to Park City, UT mostly on I-80. I could see the extra torque being helpful

That's a big jump! What did that cost, and are you concerned at all about the transmission holding up with the added power?

The cost? That’s a whole thread in itself as the Cummins shop misquoted me.

I wound up paying somewhere between $400-$600, the receipt is very difficult to understand.
Depending if your engine is in warranty will basically determine the price.

I confirmed with Allison and Cummins that the trans and engine and cooling system could handle the bump in hp/tq so I’m not in the least bit concerned.

There is a noticeable difference in my coach.
