5 Star Tune Done!

I got the tune installed today. I will have to wait for our upcoming road trip to report on results.

I got a big surprise for ignoring the warning to retract the leveling jacks before installing the tune.

I wondered about the leveling jacks. For once I read the instructions and followed them. I'm guessing a not so subtle retract?

And what was the surprise?

The surprise was the sudden retraction of the leveling jacks when the new tune started loading. No harm done.

Wow I did not know the pcm could do that. I wonder if this is a new thing or goes back to 1999? I have installed the 5 star tune but I followed the warning so I did not get the surprise. I know if my jacks are down and I put it in gear, I get a loud warning sound, but I dont think they will retract. Going to have to look in the manual.

Well I just looked it up in my manual. It called the Drive away protection system. Put the ignition in run take it out of park/neutral or disengage the braking break and the jacks will retract. And now I can add install the 5 star tune to the list.

Haha, I did that exact same thing! Was a bit startling, the drive away alarm started going off on the jack panel and the jacks retracted. No harm done though.

I'm considering it for our 2016 Southwind.
How long did the 5 Star take to install and, if you don't mind a curious question, what was the cost?
Thanks.

Am interested as well.

I think I read somewhere that they will not ship to Cal, is that correct?

Also, is it REALLY worth the money and has anyone had any negitives after the install?

Cost is around $500. They will not ship to California. I have not heard any negative feedback.

The install takes all of 15 minutes to complete.

The cost varies depending what type of tuner you get from 5star. The basic sct tuner loaded with 5stars tune will run you about 429.00 if you get it under one of the irv2 group buys that are often going on look under the vendor forum on this site. It comes with simple instructions and takes 10 to 15 minutes. Very simple and idiot proof.

That is a question only you can answer.
For me it was every penny worth it, did it improve my MPG? ( I avg 6.2 to 7.8 MPG) Not sure, I have driven in such varied conditions and terrain I wouldn't know if it helped or not. Did it make my engine and transmission performance better? with out a doubt based on my two long trips without it. The shift pattern is far superior to the stock PCM set up, the Torque converter operation and lock out are much better and I monitor all my primary engine gauges as I drive down the road with it. These are not readings I could otherwise see on my instrument panel. So for me the $400 I spent on the system was absolutely worth the money. Some may disagree because I can't say I have seen a significant increase in MPG. I did not buy it for fuel economy, I bought it for improved performance and overall longevity of my complete engine and powertrain.

THANKS Dennis!

Am also not that concerned with MPG as I have had our coach for 3 years this Oct and have never checked it.

I know I bought a similar thing for my Harley and it made all the difference in the world as far as performance. It was for fuel management, air and gas.
