My AC's amp use measured about 13 amps to start and about 10 amps running. So, I believe it would certainly be possible to run two AC's on a 30 amp service, as long a you don't use the microwave or other high amp appliance.

We had two 13.5 heat pumps in our Dutch Star, used to run both of them on 30 amp services with no trouble although that was about all you could run. No microwave or hair dryer.

My two A/C's are controlled by Intellitec and I've read the destructions quite a few times to try and understand the theory and operation. Intellitec uses Automatic Load Shedding. It also has time delay so both A/C's can't start at the same time.

I take it that when on my 5 KW generator, the front and rear A/C's run separately and independently unless the genny can't keep up. Intellitec monitors total current draw and will shed the rear A/C to protect the genny. If the genny still can't keep up, it will shed the front A/C too.

If on 30 amp shore power, Intellitec monitors the total current draw and will shed the rear A/C if necessary to prevent overloading, then the front if still overloaded. It will also alternate operation between A/C units for 30 minutes each if capable.

I have yet to test this theory. My Southwind is still new to me so I'm still checking her out.

From the destructions:

An important feature included in the Control Module circuitry is the Automatic Load Shedding function. This
circuitry measures the total current being drawn by all of the 120 VAC operated equipment in the coach being
fed through the main panel. The Current Sensor is mounted in the main panel and supplies an input signal to
the Control Module. When enough 120 volt appliances are operated so that the current exceeds 30 Amps for
more than approximately 3 seconds, the Control Module begins to shed (shut off) the A/C compressors and
fans to bring the current back below the 30 Amp limit. This prevents nuisance tripping of the main 30 Amp
breaker. The shedding sequence occurs in the following order:

1. Rear A/C compressor (if running)
2. Front A/C compressor (if running)
3. Rear A/C fan (if running)
4. Front A/C fan

ALTERNATING OPERATION:

If the total current being drawn is such that only one A/C can operate, and the ECC Thermostat continues to
demand that both A/C compressors operate, the Control Module will alternate operation of the front and rear
A/C compressors every 30 minutes. When the line current is low enough to allow operation of both air
conditioners, the Control Module will restore their operation in a reverse order to the shedding sequence. The
front or rear SHED indicators on the ECC Thermostat will remain lit until the corresponding A/C compressor
and fan are restored to normal operation.

Though I have set up the rear AC to run on its own power cord while on shore power. No more shedding.

You can go to the Fleetwood Brochure archive and look up the brochures/flyers for the various years and see when they started to offer 50A. I believe it was initially an upgrade option, but don't recall when it began.
