8.1L Stalls momentarily

Hello all, I've got an '02 Southwind with the 8.1L Vortec, 51k miles. Runs great up until I slow down; Anytime I run over 60-65 mph for a bit then slow down, off ramp, red light etc. it will lose power and stall but only for a minute or two. it will start up and run ok afterwards. Occasionally she will stall again but always restarts. The weird thing is if I run it at 60mph or slower there is no issue...

Wut is that about???

Do you have obd2 scanner with live data.. just blindly throwing this idea out to you.. it sounds closely like egr problem.. simple test.. free.. temporary disconnect e gr for test purpose and plug vacuum line going to egr valve.. then try to duplicate problem.. yes check engine light will be on.. and you will set a code.. which will have to be cleared.. sounds like sticking egr valve.. that is.. as long as you kept up with maintenance.. most time if you have done spark plugs and wires.. you just need to remove egr valve and clean.. also clean egr passages too.. now I am jumping past a lot of stuff.. and I am not saying this is your problem..
I will let others chime in here..
Good luck and keep us posted

I've got 97,000 miles on mine and haven't had that problem.....yet.

Has the fuel filter ever been replaced?

As donr mentioned...buy an OBDii scanner, it will pay for itself.

Fuel is vaporizing in the rail? Too hot under the doghouse?

Seems like he would have a hard time restarting it if it was that.

This problem sounds like the same problem I had with my 2006 Monaco Windsor. It turned out that the main chassis electric 12v circuit switch was
bad. The contacts had simply worn out. I spent a small fortune and got all sorts of incorrect assumptions from techs, Cummins, and mechanics.
I thought of the switch on a hunch.
I replaced the switch myself and the problem instantly went away.

Best of luck finding a solution.

Try following the fuel line from the tank to the motor. Look to see how close the fuel line and exaust get. Wrap the line or exhaust in any areas that are close. Mine was within 4 ". Wraped it never a problem again.

A partially clogged fuel filter seems like a good bet. I had similar intermittent slow-downs or stalls on a 2002 W22-chassis coach. Took me weeks to realize that the problem usually occurred as I slowed from a steady speed.

The fuel filter is usually near the front on the driver side, on top of the frame rail.
