95 Pace Arrow Help Needed

So a few months ago I took out and replaced the battery for the engine. Well the wiring was not the easiest to figure out and I ended up hooking somthing up backwards. I think it was one of the wires that connected the engine battery to the interior battery. Anyway long story short it sat for 5 minutes until I smelled the burning. Since then I haven't put it back in. What should I expect when I hook it back up? The interior 12 volt system still works fine and no fuses blown with that side. Should I be ready for a fire? Massive engine repairs? Any advice ? Thanks

Do you believe;

Your house batteries and converter are working properly?

Chassis battery not hooked up and afraid to hook up?

You shorted something and it starting burning?

It seems that just connecting the positives of your chassis and house batteries wouldn't do any harm.
You might want to add some pics so we can better help.
You could install an automotive type fuse inline while your troubleshooting.
