98 Flair 28' - How to find tow rating/ MTW?
Hi all,
just bought our first RV, a 1998 Fleetwood Flair 27? (28' long). Its in great shape (with a few things to address before the first trip) and has all (or at least a lot) of the owners manuals, but the one thing I cannot seem to find in them or online is what is the tow rating, and even more significantly, what is the max tongue weight?
It has a motorcycle carrier on the hitch and we plan to carry one as well, but we are bigger than the prev owners and would be well past the max gvwr for the little dual sport like they carried (250 lb bike). I would like to be able to put a ~380 lb bike on the rack. The rack itself (per its manual) is rated at 600 lbs so it should be fine at 2/3 of that weight but I can't find the numbers for the RV itself. Its probably 500lb (in which case I am good) but I see some hints that some of the older fleetwood might only be rated for 3500 towing in which case the MTW may be as low as 350.
So, does anyone know where I can find this information? There is no towing details on the sticker beside the drivers seat. Axle weights etc but no mention of towing at all.
Thanks from a newbie for any pointers
p.s. So the prev owners had reconfigured the RV in most of the ways we were planning to do when we got one. Set up for 2 people with 2 "home office" setups for working on the road, the aforementioned motorcycle rack, solar and composting toilet. Mechanically excellent (81k miles, rear transaxle just rebuilt, lots of maintenance records). Still needs 2 main things, new house battery (~1k Li) and the truck AC needs repair. Our hope is to be able to get it ready by mid-late august to drive back to the east coast (from SoCal) for 2 months and then return.
