Another question on entry steps
We are on another weekend trip in our 2014 Bounder Classic, and the entry steps are stuck in the closed position. I called Fleetwood, and after some time on the phone troubleshooting, they sent me the wiring diagram for the steps. It appears there are 3 related fuses: a 3 amp step switch, a 20 amp step motor (both located in the battery control center), and then a 5 amp entry step fuse, shown as part of an AFL harness (the diagram says co-located with the BCC), but I can't find it. The customer service rep said this is a likely culprit (the other 2 fuses are fine). Any idea where this thing actually is? We are realizing without the steps, people can get in and out reasonably well, but it is a bit of a production for our 2 60 pound older dogs. Thanks!

standing out side, can you here the controller make a click when you open door?? mine would stick in the closed position, would have to hit motor with hammer, while DW opened door. Just watch out and be out of the way of steps, they can hurt you. I took the motor off, took it apart cleaned it all and greased the grease points. And has worked good since. But have a new one just incase.

Lube the steps at all pivot points. At least that works for me.

Thanks for the replies, the motor randomly started working again. I spoke to my dealer, and the said they've seen quite a few problems with Kwikee motors lately. Unfortunately, now that it is working again, they can't replace it under warranty. I'm still frustrated that I can't find the 5 amp fuse referenced in the schematic. Customer service now seems to think it is mounted under the step...

If it works at times, it's not The fuse. Another trouble spot is where the connector plugs to the motor, the flat prongs sometimes don't make good connection. When I had the motor off, I took needle nose pliers and give the flat prongs a slight twist, just enought to make better contact. Mine was sticking in the closed position a lot before, has worked good since last summer. Work on ours myself because it is 115 miles to dealer, that's a lot of gas. Done everything I could even while under warranty. Been in shop 4 times in the almost 9 years we have had it, an one time was for brake recall. Good luck with the steps..

the 5 amp fuse may also be in the BCC,, if it is blown the steps will work as though the step switch is in the OFF position (That is they will extend when the door is open) so that is NOT your problem.
I would check the wiring plugs on the step motor assembly, use a volt meter and / or test lamp to test them under load.> Bad ground is #1 culprit,, but a shorted door switch is possible (Use multi meter on OHMS, Switch should change state when door is opened or closed).

Just as a note to all: the step motor is a Ford window motor for electric windows. Google the product number and you will get a replacement at a reasonable cost.
