Auto park light came on and will not go off. It started just flickering and then came on solid. I have had a good bit of problems with the emergency brakes. They came on in rush hour Houston traffic. Made for some anxious moments. Anyone have a solution?

Thanks for the welcome "007".
I had done a search and did not find the particular answer I had hoped. It may just be telling me it's time to trade.

From your post it sounds like your autopark needs some service SOON. You have already discovered the problems of a failure when in traffic, and you are not the only one.

From your description it sounds like you are loosing pressure. There are two pressure switches on the autopark system. The "box" is usually located on the inside of the passenger side frame rail, just to the rear of the transmission. You will see a semi-transparent plastic take that holds the fluid. First check to make sure the fluid level is up. It does not take regular brake fluid, but rather Dextron 3 transmission fluid.

There is a large plate bolted to the side that is easily removed for service. There are two pressure switches attached to the unit, one is green and is the most common cause of failure. There will be electric connections on the switch. Check for any signs of fluid leakage around the switches, and any where else on the unit for that matter. The switches can be obtained through your Chevy dealer and are easily changed out.

Another possible cause is that the system needs to have the cable adjusted. I have not done this myself, but it doesn't look to be too difficult.

The chassis manual suggests another possible cause is simply a warning that the shoes are worn and need to be replaced. This is a bit more involved in getting to the actual brake shoes, but any good truck shop should be able to do it for you.

There is a member of RV.NET that seems to be an expert in auto park related problems. He goes by the name of "oldusedbear". Give me a PM if you are interested and I will give you his email address. He has been a wealth of information and will send you all you need or ever wanted to know about the autopark system.

Also consider posting this problem down in the Workhorse Chassis forum lower on the main page. You will get many answers there too.
