Battery Disconnect Questions 2020 Fleetwood Flair 29m
Greetings to All,
I have questions about the big red battery disconnect switch in the storage bay of my new to me 2020 Fleetwood Flair 29M.
No matter what position I put the switch in (off or on) the house batteries will still work when I turn them on at the switch just inside the door at the control panel. Why is this? Isn’t the big red switch supposed to disconnect the batteries? The only thing it seems to do is cut power to the inverter?
Also in the owners manual it makes several references to both a house battery disconnect switch and a chassis battery disconnect switch. Is the big red switch for the chassis battery? If not where is the chassis battery disconnect switch?
I really appreciate any and all advise on this matter.
Thanks, Karl

29M Flair schematics
According to the schematics I have disconnect next to the inverter is just for the inverter.
The drawing also shows another connection off page "To Aux Batt Disconnect" but doesn't show it or where it would be, my wild guess would be under the hood somewhere?

Thanks Mike. That was actually very helpful.
My suspicion now is that the Aux Battery switch in the entry way to the coach (control panel) is actually the Aux Battery Disconnect.
The red switch is, as you said, just to cut power to the inverter.
I also suspect there isn’t any chassis battery disconnect switch since there isn’t one between the chassis battery and the ECU.

I'll make an assumption that the unit you call an inverter is actually a charger/inverter. The big red switch connects the batteries to the charger/inverter. If you're plugged into shore power, or running the generator for 120V power, the big red switch will allow the charger to charge the batteries. If there is no external 120V power, then the big red switch allows the inverter to draw current form the batteries to produce inverted 120V power.
In my opinion, if the camper is stored, always disconnect the big red switch because the inverter/charger has a residual draw on the batteries if left connected. When the coach is in use, always have the big red switch on so you always have the power needed, plugged in/generator, or not.
The battery disconnect switch by the door removes 12V power from the interior of the coach (lights etc.) when it is off. There may also be a chassis disconnect switch for the engine battery.

The Magnum inverter shown in the photo is almost surely NOT a charger as well as inverter - the form factor doesn't match Magnum's inverter/charger product line. But to get a definitive answer we need Karl155 to supply the Magnum model number.

It definitely does charge as well.
My inverter is a Magnum CWS1012 Pure Sine Wave Inverter
Attached are some pics.

I'm with Gary on this, don't think it charges the batteries. Nothing mentioned in the Magnum manual I read a few moments ago. Betting the charger is separate.

The magnum does not charge it is just a 1000W inverter.
The charger is called a converter and is located directly behind the distribution panel in the base of the bed.
Under the top step there's a 50A fuse to the left of the DC ckt board that is the inbound DC feed from the converter under the bed.0
The converter is powered from a 20A outlet on the back of the distribution panel.
The Aux battery switch is the closest thing to an off switch from the battery but I believe some DC loads may still draw when it is off.
Here's a link to the manual for the converter & dist panel as well as a few pics of the mess inside mine.

The more I dig, it seems the previous owner did some questionable repairs so now I'm looking at a full DC side renovation with Lithium, a Victron multiplus and eventually some solar.

Great information! Very helpful! Thank you!
Your pics look a lot like my setup.
Interesting that yours also does not have a fuse in the slot labeled
“Tank Heater”. I’m guessing there isn’t one? I was thinking of throwing a fuse in there and see if it does anything…
