Battery Voltage

Looking to replace batteries in recently acquired Southwind. 34L. 460 gas.
Currently has 1, twelve volt ( common car battery from AAA), and one 6 volt deep cycle, Interstate U 2000 for house batteries and one 6 volt Interstate deep cycle U 2000 for "engine".
The 2 6's are in series of course.
Should they be replaced "as is", manual specifically states all batteries are 12v. Don't know if I should believe it or my sagging old lying eyes.
Thanks
Ken

You are going to have one "coach" battery, the 12 volt, and yes it's a standard car battery. If you need to repplace it get a big one is all.

The 2 six volts (in series for 12 volts total) are your house batteries, and that is the best configuration, tho you could use a single 12 volt if you wanted, or even 2 12's in parallel.

I just replace my single 12v house battery with a pair of trojan 6 volt golf cart batteries. They fit on that tray like they were born there, and talk about endless power!

I'd stay with the 6V for the house batteries - more rugged and more amp-hours than most 12v's.

My Southwind batts are; one 12V behind the hood (starting/chassis battery), a standard auto battery. Two 6V deep cycle batteries hooked in series, located under the steps (these are the house batteries). Most info I've read says this is the way to go to get the most power available for boondocking.
