We have a 2017 Fleetwood Storm 36D and the light switch for our bedroom ceiling puck lights stopped working consistently. Now it will only turn on the lights about 1 in 10 times we try it. Replaced the switch with no change. The switch is located on the wall that is part of the bedroom slide out. Figured out how to access the wiring to the switch and see that it comes from a major harness of wires that run down the wall between our bedroom closet wall and the wall to the bunkbed area that is also in the slide out right next to the closet. There are puck lights and switches in the bunkbed area also and I can trace those wires running into the same large wiring harness. I can see where this harness of wires runs down between the walls and into the floor of the slide out itself. My opinion is that somewhere in this array of wires is a short that intermittently happens and causes this problem.
I have taken out a couple of the ceiling puck lights and find that between our fiberglass roof and our interior ceiling is pretty much a continuous maze of what I think is called ridge foam which as best as I can tell makes it impossible to trace the wiring from on puck light to the other or to have any ability to even pull the wiring from one puck light to the other.
So, I am thinking it is a hopelessly impossible task to try and track down this short and fix it and immensely expensive and time consuming to take the rv to “experts” to do it. And it’s just puck lights in the ceiling…but it would be nice if they worked!! I’m thinking about things like just getting battery powered puck type lights and sticking them on the ceiling that turn on and off by pushing on them. Or maybe doing a completely new 12 volt wiring structure that will come from the 12 volt fuse bar under our bed, running that wiring up the exterior of a wall and then over the exterior of the ceiling somehow and then into the existing puck lights but not using any of the existing wiring since that would no doubt mess up the puck lights in the bunkbed area that at least work fine now.
Am I missing a simple approach to finding the cause of this problem? Any thoughts or suggestions? Scott

A couple of quick questions.

Is your rig equipped with The Precision Plex system? Do you have the standard black click type switch or do you have the white square buttons that light up when you turn on the lights? FW used the PP system on the Bounders. I do t know about the Storms.

You almost certainly do not have a short as that would blow a fuse. You may have an open on either the hot or ground side.

We need to know which system you have to provide more troubleshooting help.

OK. First thing I would do it verify that the fuses in your converter are all good. Second thing would be to check for 12V at the switch. Is the light intermittent or is it completely dead at this point?

If you have power at both sides of the switch when the switch is on, but the light is not working, then either the light fixture itself has an issue or there is a break in the wire between the switch and the light. If there is no power at the switch, then either the power source has a blown fuse, or the fuse is not seated properly, or there’s a break in the wiring between the converter box and the switch. It is not unheard of for fuses to get corroded and cause intermittent problems.
