Chassis batteries not charging while driving

What component manages the charging of the chassis batteries while drive. The Alternator is ok but whatever directs the charge to the batteries is not working.

Fleetwood xcs chassis. I have searched the forums but can not find the answer.

Is it charging the house batteries. What is the voltage of each bank while the engine is running.

Normally the diesel engine alternator charges the chassis batteries, and when they reach a certain voltage a relay closes and the alternator charges both house and chassis batteries. So like winnman said, are the house batteries being charged at all? How do you know the alternator is OK?

In most post 2000 MHs, the alternator output wire goes directly to the battery terminal on the engine starter. From there the charging current goes to the chassis battery thru the starter cable. That's the way it's built in the engine factory.

That guarantees the chassis battery gets a constant voltage, for all of the electronic engine and transmission computers along with all of the other chassis components.

House charging is thru an isolation solenoid system from the chassis battery to the house battery. Like a automatic jumper cable.

So the answer is, there is no component that turns on or off the alternator to the chassis battery.

Where is this solenoid system and what does it look like?

The component is

Trombetta 12 Volt Bear DC Contactor Part No. 114-1211-020

Looks like a direct replacement.

Flip the boost switch on and off and listen for it clunking, to locate it.
