Check Engine Light on

Have a 08 American Coach Tradition. Driving from Columbus OH to Toronto OH engine light came on, coach lost power. We continued 20 miles to campground. Barely crawled into the place. A month ago, coach was serviced including all new filters. We put on roughly 1000 miles traveling from Florida. Any idea other than filters what the cause might be? We have owned this coach for 18 months and this is the 3rd time we have this problem. New filters installed 4 times, gas tank "dropped" by Lazy Days and clog in fuel line cleaned out. All in the last 18 months.

A good place to start is the computer error codes read by a competent service technician with a track record recommendation. They can be located by your local (or as close to) recommended service facilities list in the manual.

A guess? Could be anything. Don't guess.

Many parts stores will come out and hook up a code reader to see whats going on for free.

Cummins does not use OBD protocol. OP should go to a Cummins shop. Don't be surprised if there are no error codes. There are many causes for a CEL but a couple of things to pay attention to might help.

When you start the engine, even if it's hot and you are just restarting, make sure to allow the WAIT Light to time out before you attempt to start. Failure to do this can cause ECM to get confused and throw up a CEL and not register a fault code.

What type of roads are you driving? Rough roads or hitting pot holes that jar the chassis will also cause an intermittent electrical blip resulting in a CEL and no fault codes.

Your first stop though should be a Cummins dealer and go from there.

We had loss of power issues in Montana in 2015. Final solution was changing fuel filters but when it happened we did not get any codes. Stopped at Cummins Northwest in Missoula and after checking the computer and finding no codes they looked for possible software updates for our 2008 ISB6.7 and there was one for power loss with no codes. Actually they found a number of updates so he updated the computer and so far everything has been working well. The shop was very busy and would not have been able to do anything that day so the service manager assisted us at the curb and spent about an hour. All that help and no charge. I suspect this all started when we started to get diesel that had biodiesel. Biodiesel can cause any algae and crud in the tank to migrate to the fuel filters. We now travel with spares on the coach.

Not on large diesels as OP has.
