Cleaning the refrigerator flue

We have a 2005 Bounder 32w with a Dometic refer. We bought it new in '05 an the recall work was done on the refer in about '07. Have never had a problem with it or even anything to suspect a problem, BUT I want to check the flu to be sure critters have not nested in there this winter. Especially since they got inside my furnace and made a mess!

How to I check it? The big cap on the roof looks to be on there pretty solid and not sure i want to try to take it off since it would mean re-sealing etc. Is there any simpler way to look or check in there?

Also, i guess I'm just getting paranoid, but how hot should the flu be during normal use on AC? It is hot, but but not too hot to touch. I can also feel heat on the refer flu roof cap, so that should mean its working as its supposed to .. right?

I cleaned my flue when we took an extremely wash-boarded road for about 7 miles. Was quite a bit of debris around the burner area. Not that I recommend this method, but I haven't seen any more junk from the flue since. We also have screens at the inlet and outlet to keep bugs out.

Or if this has been discussed before feel free to let me know. I've searched around and couldn't seem to find it.

The big cap on the roof is held on rather solid, by 4 to 8 screws which are in the top of the cap and easily located (there may be putty atop them though) simply remove them and it lifts off easily.

Beyond that I can not help you.
