CO detector

When I went to change the 9V battery in the detector which is on the bedroom wall the whole thing came out with wires attached to nothing. There is a base plate screwed to the wall and the detector twists onto it. There are three wires coming out of the detector which were never hooked up.
I did fish out the wires in the wall and there was a disconnect devise with wires which were waiting for a hook up but never done. The wires from the detector were just shoved in the wall.
I have owned the unit since new
You may want the check yours to make sure it's hooked up.

I know mine is hooked up. It died last year and I replaced it. Good post though.

Hal,

Thanks for the heads up; mine are battery operated but I'll look further and check for electrical hookups.

Oh that's good. The 5PM whistle must've blown just as the factory person was gonna hook that up.

Better check mine. Thanks for the post.

It could be possible they installed a multiplex unit instead of a standard detector. FireEx makes a model that can be used hard wired and battery stand alone or you can tie multiple alarms together using main power for supply and each device has battery back up. Would think it would connect to inverter as the power is 110v. There are also devices that detect carbon monoxide and smoke ( dual function) this type of device detects the carbon monoxide at even lower levels due to it being mounted higher than a standard detector.

Can anyone really explain to me the sense of replacing the CO detector with the RV variety for $100.00 bucks (when you have to replace again after 5 years) when you can buy a battery operated one for about $30.00? I can't really see the advantage for the cost difference. Just because it is wired to the coach, doesn't really seem to justify the extra expense.

My CO detector is combined with a propane detector and is hard wired. It sits just above the entry steps built into a kitchen cabinet. I know it is connected because I have had problems with false alarms. It only happens on sunny days for some reason.

My 96 Pace has one in the bedroom that is hard wired. I'm was sure it was out dated. So I contacted the manufacturer to find a replacement and was told they don' make them anymore. To just use a battery type.
