Compartment receptacles not working

Hello,
I have a 1992 American Eagle and three compartment receptacles are not working in the compartment with the inverter? I have been having trouble with the Inverter not working properly and I am wondering if it is possible that these two issues are related

Thanks, David

Do you have a diagram showing what outlets the inverter is connected to? My inverter has 2 120 VAC outputs. One output is dedicated to the microwave and the other output is connected to 13 120 VAC receptacles.

With the inverter diagram, you can disconnect shore power and turn on the inverter and use a AC volt tester to check the outlets.

Good Luck
John

Please explain what you mean by compartment. What compartment would have 3 receptacles in it?

Receptacles are on branch circuits and protected by a breaker, so that's the first thing to check. And since they are essentially on the exterior of the RV, they are probably also protected by a GFCI, so find and reset that as well. There may also be a switch somewhere inside the coach that activates any outlets in a compartment.

The circuits may be serviced by the inverter, but there would be other receptacles out as well if that were it, e.g. kitchen outlets and microwave, which would also be inverter-supplied. I doubt if your inverter problem is related to the lack of outlet power.

My Exterior Outlet's only work on Shore Power or Generator -- Been like that since Day one. Must be a reason, Never checked it out!

Thanks Guys, Looks like Gary hit it as I do have two outlets and MW that are also not working. Didn't think this was related but looks like it must be.

Thanks to all who responded,
David

Inverter

As per Gary's reply it looks like an inverter issue, can I run with the inverter removed as long as all exposed wires are protected? I have found M&M RV Electronics and they can repair the Dimension Inverter that I have or should I bite the bullet and change it out?

Thanks again,
David

A Dimension inverter in an American Coach? Sounds like it may have already been replaced once - I think a '92 Eagle should have a Heart unit, maybe even a Heart Source Manager. What model Dimensions inverter is it, and is it an inverter/charger or inverter only?

In any case, you haven't determined what is wrong yet. Could be as simple as resetting the built-in circuit breaker that most inverters have.

You could bypass the wiring through the inverter if you have the electrical skills (sounds as though you may not), but if the inverter is also the battery charger and 12c converter, you can't do without that. If you had the original equipment I'd be sure it was an integrated inverter/converter/charger, but since its probably been modified I can't be sure of that.

Thanks Gary,
As I am new to motorhomes this makes more sense. I have a separate converter in the same compartment. I have disconnected the inverter but wasn't sure if I could roll down the road while it was being fixed.

I have checked circuit breakers both inside and on the inverter. I just didn't realize that there were some that worked and some didn't while on the inverter, I though that all the inverter did was isolate the ACs. With all of this said it looks like it is and inverter issue so I will pull and send for repair.

Thanks again to all who answered
