Converter problem

http://www.irv2.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=223
I have scanned and uploaded the manual that was found. I have more to upload later.

My guess is the charge circuit board is faulty. All dc powers and 120v powers are still being supplied by shore power but no charge to batteries. My engine will start but no charges to engine battery. I know they dont charge the house batteries. Is the converter the cause of the problems?

With the output of the converter disconnected from the batteries, do you have 12vdc out of the converter? If 120vac is going in, and nothing coming out, and fuses and breakers are good... Then converter is faulty.

I have been busy with my job and lookingnto have career change. It has been nuts lately. Wish i have a mutltimeter on hand. I asked my brother in law to bring his. For now this is what I got.

I disconnected the batteries, both chassis and house. I plugged the shore power back on and the converter is recieving 120v and provided 120v wall plugs and 12v lights do turn on. So i guess the converter is faulty?

I do not think there are any replacement parts for the old converter. If it is indeed crapped out, what converter should i look into to replace the old one?

If my brother do come by with his multimeter, what step by step should we follow on?

This started after replacing belt on alternator. Engine ran good and had charge. I let charge for a bit then i turned on headlights, checking out other switches and turned on dash AC, the engine shuts down with loss of charge. Thats also when the converter stopped charging the house batteries when i plugged in the shore power. Maybe its the relay somewhere instead of converter?
Here's the weird part and impossible but works. I can turn on the generator, the house batteries will charge up. I used jumper cable and routed it to chassis battery to charge up. All batteries are now in green and charged. I do not want to start engine until i know for sure.

Okay, here's something else i discovered. My battery is strong and able turn generator on just fine and shore plug is on generator. Interior lights illuminated. Shut off generator, lights disappeared with no switch to draw from battery.

Did you check the 40 amp fuse shown in your diagram ? Right side of diagram.
That is how the battery power gets to the 12 volt fuses.

Next thing, your diagram showed a Dual Battery Charger. There are 2 issues with that.

1, It could be bad. The alternator output goes to it and it splits out to both batteries. Jump the center post to the main battery and see if the main battery charges. You may also see the AUX battery charging when you jump it.

2, Did you replace the alternator with the exact on that you took off. If not, it may not work or it may have burnt out already.

Let us know what you find before you condem the converter, it seems to be working.

Ill have the multi battery isolator checked out as well as aux switch. I believe this the 40amp fuse
What fuse is it called and how do you test that type of fuse? Cant see inside like bladed fuse, glass tube or clear plastic top.

Use a 12 volt test light by grounding the lights test wire and probe for power with the sharp end.........if your fuse is a blade glass fuse, on the fuse face ( where the amp rating of 40 is), there is a small area that the probe will fit into to check for power, on each side of the front.....fuse good, light will light ...Glass tube fuse...hold one end on good battery post, take test light, connect to other battery post, and touch probe to other end of fuse....light lights, fuse good........make sure you have a good ground for proper tests
