Cruise control out

On our recent trip back from florida, our cruise control ( speed control) and radio went out at the same time. Was working great up to that point.
We were driving through a constant driving rain for hours, but don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.
Checked both under dash and under hood fuses shown in the manual for the Speed Module, and they are not the issue. Any suggestions where else to look?

Had a similar loss of CC in my '94 Fleetwood but it would just happen occasionally. I don't drive with the radio on very often so I don't know if it affected that or not. I eventually found that things would go out when I operated the steering wheel 'Tilt'. But wouldn't come back when I tilted to the previous position. In that case it was a bundle of wires that were strapped too tightly to the steering column. When I'd tilt while driving, the movement would 'tug' on the wire bundle which would pull the connector partially apart. Once found, cut a couple zip ties, cleaned and tightened the terminals in the connector, strapped it so it had some slack and back in business with a working CC.

For any lurkers, the RV was a diesel and it also had the vacuum pump go bad 2-3 years later so CC would again die while driving, then went out permanently. I'd heard a new rattling noise from back there prior to it failing but couldn't find the source. When the noise went away, I had no CC.

Pretty sure the CC was a Ford system on that Freightliner chassis and it needed vacuum in that era. Replacing that pump (attached to the inside of a frame rail just forward of the engine on the passenger side) fixed the issue for a few years then it went out again, and I'm pretty sure that time it was caused by the throttle spring breaking but I didn't get it fixed before I sold it.

So check the vacuum tubes to/from around the vacuum accumulator (it's near the vacuum pump, if you have one - I think it's just diesels that have the pump, gas chassis' use the engine vacuum), and the throttle spring.

Good luck!

Only for the cc. There was a recall adding a fuse at the cc harness. It's 2 amp and it can wear out from viberation . Look for the fuse at the module on the dash under the hood in the harness
it's in a fuse holder at the cc.

The CC worked on ours when we first got it then quit. Found that the main wire loom had dropped down and was rubbing on the driveshaft. That caused the wire for the CC to short out. The hard part was finding the blown fuse!! I finally did find it. It was in the front compartment under the windshield. It was not marked!! I had looked at it several times but I missed where it was fried! Replaced and CC works fine. My suggestion is: Check every fuse! The manufactures do strange things when putting the coach on the chassis.

Ford had a Recall to do with brake light , cruise control wiring fires , and the harness Ford added ( I don't have all the year info ) had fuses that would not show in regular manuals .
I have this picture , that another member posted , showing the section of the recall harness where the fuse is located.
