Dash air out

We took our Fleetwood Providence 40X (2007) into the shop for a problem with my dash air conditioner. The shop told us that the air conditioner unit could not be accessed without taking the whole dash out. The shop stated they confirmed this through Fleetwood. I know the shop manager personally , I don't think he would rip me off, but this sounds crazy.

Far to many manufacturers , don't make any allowances for ease of repairs after the coach leaves the assembly line . You could confirm for yourself with Fleetwood, but I think you'll find your not getting the run around.

TRUE!!
To reach the engine o n our rig they have to remove the whole bed pedestal and part of the closet framing and doors. That's just to get to the access panel! And naturally Cummins is only too happy to charge you $125+ per hour each for two men to do it.

To get to it all you need to do is open the dog house door in the center of the lower dash. Next locate the screws holding the panel on the dog door attaches to, remove them, and the front of the dog house will come off. Next, locate the screws holding the panel just to right of the dog house and remove them, panel comes off, and you can access the A/C and heater. Call Fleetwood and ask them for the dog house diagram, it will show you the pieces of plywood and how the thing is built.
All Fleetwood did was build a metal frame, then screwed plywood to it. If your guy thinks he needs to remove the whole dash, you may want to call your local Fleetwood Dealer, have them remove the panels then drive it over to your guy to repair the A/C. Once you see the pieces you will see how they did it, and how easy it is to access everything.

It's in storage so it will be a few days before I can get some pics, but when I called Fleetwood, they sent me the diagrams of how they put the front dash area together. I think almost all the Fleetwood branded DP's have the same dash. Attached is the diagram from Fleetwood on how they put it together, and it is easily reverse engineered.
