Day/Night Shade

The Day/Night shade, on my living room slide small window, broke this morning! The plastic retainer for the string at the bottom of the shade broke! What do you remove to fix the shade? I need to find the string & re-attach to the plastic retainer, but I don't see anyway to remove the casement around the window.

Thanks for any help or pictures

There are screws that hold the shade up. Just move the material around until you find them.

Ours have a clip in the middle to hold it in place while you install or remove two screws going straight up. You might have to kind of stand on your head and look up inside the valance.

We bought a CD and kit from RV Shade and Blind Repair Forget what it cost but the parts are helpful as was the instruction CD. We have used string from the hardware store to restring a few of our blinds since then but still refer to the CD. Take you time and you will get the hang of it then anytime one of the shades has a problem you can fix it yourself.

Pull the shade up to see behind the casement. There should be "L" brackets holding it to the wall. With that removed, the shades are probably attached to the wall with "U" type brackets. Pull down on the shade at the top while pulling the top out. To replace, you put the bottom of the shade in first while keeping the top of the shade tilted out. Now push down on the shade while pushing the top in to snap back into place. Mine are really tight and take a lot of force to remove and replace.

While your at it, go to a sewing machine store and buy some metal bobbins to replace all of the plastic ones. I have found that these plastic ones break more than the strings.

One thing I learned from a guy that restring our blinds here in Florida. Is that the strings are not suppose to be so tight that they sound like a guitar string. Loosen up the string around the spools and your strings will not break so often!
