Mike, I have an 07 39v and have removed/repaired just about all the Day/Night shades.
The toughest one for me is behind the sofa.
My shades are attached to the valances with 2 or three short screws. 2 on the narrow shades and three on the wider shades. These screws are usually on the window side of the shade. You will meet a LONG Phillips screwdriver to get to these screws. You will most likely have to remove the shade first to then get to the three screws that hold the actual balance to the upper cabinets.
This is where it gets tricky with my valance. Valances are also secured to the walls on the two lower sides. Some have an L bracket that you can easily get to and others are secured to the wall with a screw that's toe-nailed from the bottom up at a 45 degree angle. IF the lower edge of the valance is behind the couch removing it could be next to impossible w/o removing the couch! Sometimes a ax host stubby Phillips will work but trying to work the valance out from the couch can become a real fight.
Open both window and screen, stick your head out and look up between the shade and window. You might have to lower the shade to see the screws holding the shade to the valance. The screws are close to the shade centerline. You should also be able to see and/or feel the screws holding the valance to the upper cabinets. Usually between the shade and window.
Some of my valances I can remove with the shades still installed. Makes it much easier.
Once you get the valance off it depends on what the screws are screwed into.
"Might" be easier to just screw new screws next to the old.
Keep us posted on your progress.
