Diesel fuel question

We just returned from a trip. I have between half and three quarter tank of fuel. Have been using Stanadyne Performance Formula. Live in Northern Michigan on Lake Huron shore line. No one seems to know if they have winter blend. Unit will be setting ( outside with a cover ) until December 10th when we are heading to Florida.

Question is: should I fill the tank (using Stanadyne) now or try to wait for winter blend?

Should I still start the generator periodically?

Anything else that I should be concerned about?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with the additive you are talking about but you are only talking two months so I would change out or at least make sure the filter is free of water and not worry about it until you are ready to leave. I have little doubt that they will have a blend at the pumps in December. Starting the gen once in November can,t hurt. Usually the truck stops will know when they have a blend where a standard short stop station the clerk may not even know they sell diesel.

Probably won't that much of a difference no matter what you do about additive.
I would however fill the tank up so it is sitting with the smallest amount of air in the tank as possible.

I would buy the Power Service fuel conditioner in the white bottle(Power Service Products is America's largest manufacturer of technologically advanced diesel fuel additives.), which is available at Walmart and most auto supply stores and use the appropriate amount for your tank capacity. If Stanydyne prevents fuel gelling then you could use the appropriate amount instead. Top off the tank and drive about 15-20 minutes to mix the cocktail throughout the fuel system. I would also run the gennie during this drive under 1/2 load, (turn on ac heatpumps or small electric for load).
Might cost you $15-25 dollars and 30-60 minutes of your time but well worth it considering the alternative.
