I believe that the Revolution has the same Cummins engine on both the Spartan and Freightliner Liberty chassis. The DD13 is only used on the Freightliner SL based chassis on the American Eagle and Newmar Essex.

For my model year the Spartan was a step up. Came with bigger engine and was supposedly higher quality. I didn't drive them both, but Spartan was exclusive to the LE in 05 then standard after. The spartan Liberty chassis is pretty highly regarded.

I think that you will find that almost all Freightliner and Spartan owners are very pleased with their chassis and the level of support they receive from what I have read here.
Engines will not necessarily be different, after Cat dropped out of the OTR market, both chassis makers were pretty much Cummins houses.

Is it true that most fire trucks use the Spartan Chassis?

Spartan is a very common chassis for fire trucks, yes.

Recently, within the last couple of years, American Coach has gone from Spartan, considered a step up at the time, to Freightliner chassis. The party line is that FL has come up with a new chassis so new AC owners won't feel the company is taking a step backwards. JMHO, but I'd say follow the money.
