Dirty Stripe on Ceiling / 2004 Fleetwood Flair

I recently purchased this used Flair. The first time I washed it, (including scrubbing the top) a dark line appeared on the ceiling inside the coach running laterally in a straight line from the AC register to the side wall.

It is about 1/4 inch wide and dirty black. I'm baffled.

Is there a seam in the roof covering above the dirty line? Another thought, could there be a leak around the air conditioner opening?

I can't find any cracks or gaps on the roof. I do think there is water getting in around the AC unit on the roof and running down a gap in the structure somehow.

The interesting thing is that there are other short lines (2 or 3 inches) elsewhere in the cabin primarily in front of lighting fixtures.
