Change the fuel filters. Had the same problem. The mechanic replaced both the water separator and the fuel filter. He also filled the fuel filter with automatic transmission fluid too. May take some cranking to start up the engine so only crank for short during.

Search on this forum for craning instructions and comment on using ATF in the fuel.
Good Luck
John

Have you checked your post in the Caterpillar engine forums .
I posted a diagram .

Do you have the correct fault code ?

Here's a picture of your C-7 , with arrow showing the ECM , following the wire harness from the ECM along the engine will lead you to every sensor , all but the Timing sensor(s) are visible.

Codes .

15- Injection Activation Pressure sensor Fault ( results are " low power and reduced engine speed")

18- Injection Activation Pressure Control Valve fault ( results are " engine miss fire and shut down : stalling )

I would think , given you say the idle is smooth and didn't mention stalling , that you need a new sensor to deal with the code 15.
The 18 code may be false due to the condition of the sensor.

This pdf has a page with the Caterpillar fault codes .

And the C-7 picture again with the sensor circled.
