Discovery Dash Removal?

Hi All,

I drive a 98 Discovery that needs to have the A/C Evaporator repaired or replaced. Unfortunately, it's buried in the large dash section in front of the passenger seat. I contacted Fleetwood to see if they had any disassembly instructions or diagrams, and their answer was to take my old girl to an authorized service center. Unfortunately, that isn't possible.

I casually looked at how the larger dash section is put together, and quickly abandoned any effort to disassemble same fearing I might damage something. Has anyone ever torn into the larger dash section where they hid all the A/C guts?

Any guidance or documentation would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom Ryan

Our Discovery dash was removed by the original owner to get at the A/C and did minor damage to the edges of the plastic. It's noticeable if your looking for it. I asked him about it when we were looking at it and he said he tried everything to get it out without damaging it, but he and the shop he took it to couldn't figure out how to remove it without the damage. Good luck!

Thanks.

I think your pix show the cowl over the driver's side, which on my unit is a large molded piece that comes off easily with 5 screws. It gives me easy access to lights, instruments, radio, rear view monitor, misc switches, etc.

But the side of the dash I need to get into is the lower base in front of the passenger's seat. If I get down by the pedals under the steering wheel and look to the right, I can see some of the A/C evaporator assembly that hides back under there, between the interior dash wall and the firewall under the large flat "dash board", but I have no idea how to disassemble the passenger side of that enclosure so the air handling guts are accessible.

Tom

You may have to access it from the front of the MH.

Agreed. I did see some access from the firewall, but it looks like access would be partial at best.

Update: I was contacted again by Fleetwood and hope to get more useful information which I will share if and when.

Fleetwood Comes Through!

Good News!

Denis at Fleetwood MH Service came through with some detailed dash A/C drawings (attached). I've forwarded those to my service tech, and I think I'm good to go.

Thanks to all (and Denis) for participating!

I really don’t know where the evaporator came from as I had a service provider do the work. My best guess would be it was sourced out of Freightliner.
