Discovery HVAC - Mystery Plug
I recently purchased a 1996 Discovery 36' with the 5.9 diesel. The attached photo is of the HVAC panel in the bedroom. My question concerns the 3 wire plug protruding from the wall just below the panel. Can anyone tell me what should be plugged in to that? A thermostat maybe?

Most thermostats use a phone wire plug, how about a hardwired smoke detector.

When posting a photo , if the format is too large ; the site computers will do strange things . If your working from a laptop , resize to 800 pixels or less to avoid the rotation while posting .
Do you have a thermostat mounted elsewhere in the RV?
Does your furnace and roof mounted A/C unit work ?

No other thermostat than the slide switches on the pictured panel. The AC's worked when I bought the unit. Was in Tucson so they never cycled off in the 103⁰ heat. Have not gotten the furnaces to fire up yet but have not spent much time on that issue.

Just removed an aged-out hardwired CO detector & that is exactly what the plug looked like.
Note the 2 small holes where 1 may have mounted....

Just a WAG....an outdated CO2 detector went there? When I replaced my OEM installed detector...I recall a similar connector...which I could not use BTW and went with a battery powered unit.

That's what I thought it may have been. On my 98 Pace Arrow I have basically the same set up and I have a "Protechtor Carbon Monoxide Detector" located in that area. Do you have any manuals indicating that you may have had one at one time. Maybe do as RichKimball has suggested if you do not have a detector. I just tested mine and it still works.

I found the literature that I have on my detector and no where does it have an expiration date on it for a life span. Many of these detectors have a life span of 7-10 years. Mine seems to be working as it is designed to do but it may be time for me to find a replacement such as Rich says. Mine is a 97 vintage!

Ken,
For sure you should replace that detector as you already know. Also the LPG detector as it has a similar lifespan.

Take a look at the actual wires and see if you can find a Fleetwood number or description stamped on each wire. It is usually in black ink. If you can find the number look it up and it may tell you what it goes to.

RV rated detectors
When replacing any smoke or CO detectors, make sure your replacement is rated for use in a RV.
A home detector is not built to the same standard as an RV detector. Vibration and temperature are two of the higher standards.
The sensor can fail, but the electronics will still test ok.
The life span used to be five years, newer ones are labeled for ten years.

As others have said its for the detector. Mine looks the same on my 04 Flair. Replaced with battery ones.
