Does your toilet hold water?

I have cleaned our toilet quit well using brush and our toilet will not hold water. When flushed a small amount of water will accumulate once the ball valve is closed, it eventually leaks out. I've cleaned and poured vinegar in and around seal no help. Any suggestions?

I installed a new ball seal and works very well. perhaps your should replace the seal You can try lubing it with vasoline.I have had some success if the seal is good and just hard from no useage and no water

I tried cleaning, greasing, etc. before I repaired mine by accident. I put a chemical bag in the toilet and forgot to flush it. When I checked the toilet 3 days later it was sealed. It hasn't leaked since.

I take it by chemical bag you mean one of those single pack toilet chemicals where the bag dissolves in water. I bet there is a compound or chemical in there that swells the seal a bit and rejuvenates it, enabling it to seal again.

Cut the water supply to coach, flush toilet, pour just enough olive oil to cover the seal, let set over night or until next time camping, done. Works every time.

The seals are neoprene. Vaseline or any other petroleum product would be a bad choice.

I've has some luck with the silicone grease they sell for pool filter seals, but eventually the seal had to be replaced and has been good for at least 2 years.

I've never tried olive oil. But I might next time. garlic infused?

If nothing is broken (seal still intact - springs intact) this I guarantee will work:

1. Clean the seal and "dome".
2. Apply a layer of "Plumbers silicone grease" to the seal, and a dab on the dome doesn't hurt.

That's all it takes.

The problem starts when in storage and the water in the bowl evaporates and the seal dries out. The oil doesn't evaporate like the water does. Somebody told us about this years ago.

Thanks for all replies. Is there a way to inspect the seal without dismantling toilet? As it is now olive oil will leak thru pretty fast.

Correct, oil attacks rubber, do not use petroleum based products.

Silicone grease (expensive) does not effect rubber.

Mine has never held water for a long time. By lifting up on the flush lever I put enough water in it to do my business, then push it down to flush normally. Been doing it that way for over 4yrs. of fulltiming.
