Drain / Refill leveler system

My leveler pump / tank assembly is located behind the passenger front wheel.

I want to drain the old fluid and refill with fresh Valvoline Synthetic AT fluid, around 2 gallons. (I doubt its ever been done)

The drain is easy, its on the bottom of the tank. However, filling the tank, well, thats another story as the filler plug is on the top of the tank.

1) I'm thinking of cutting a small hole in the floor, maybe 1 inch in diameter, directly above the fill plug. I can then fill it from inside the coach, and then make a nice small cover for the hole in the floor.

2) I thought I had an old electric fuel pump laying around, I could pump it from the 1 gallon jugs to the tank.

Any other ideas on how to fill the tank???

How many actual hours are on the oil ?

If I was to do anything, it would be to drain a bit off the bottom of the tank, looking for water, and then top it off.

Your not changing all of the oil, unless you bleed each cylinder, anyway.

They make suction/pump guns that look like grease guns. That will do what you want to do. Harbor Freight sells one.

If you have the pump, why not run a hose from it to the fill plug without drilling the hole?

I use a Plews 55001 Lubrimatic Fluid Quart Pump for filling differential housings, and hydraulic oil tanks etc. It is less than $10, easy to find at Walmart , Amazon etc. and easy to clean for the next use.

Twinboat;

I agree, its not like a tranny that sees heat and serves as a lubricant, and is in a horrible environment. But on the other hand. Its been sitting in there for 18 years (maybe, I don't know the service history)

There is a small amount of fluid that remains in the jack and the hyd lines. But after a couple cycles of the jacks, this fluid should mix with the new fluid.

More for my peace of mind, This way I know exactly what the status is..

GREAT Ideas on the pumps... Looks like a trip to Harbor Freight is in order.. :-)

Be very careful going to Harbor Freight. If you are like me, you will walk out with more items than you went in to buy! "Oh look, a box of disposable gloves. Paint brushes, I always need more of them. Cut off wheels, another package won't hurt to have around. Air hose, look it's on sale today......."

Yea, going to Harbor Freight is never a good idea for me. Just ask Sharon.

The good part is, it's all junk, and you can toss it after a few uses.

Not all of it is junk. Certain things are just fine for those once in a while jobs. The problem is you can go in for one thing and walk out with a cart load! The good thing is the whole cart load will only cost you a hundred bucks!
