Bounder: Electric awning and rain

I had mine rolled out and no rain. went to a friend that afternoon and had some heavy rain and winds. The dumb thing didn't work and the winds got ahold of it and that was the last of our motorhome. It tore the rubber roof and antenna and skylight.. So much for the nice looks for that coach. I can't say anything about the carefree models but i would say to stay away from the a&e awnings. The weatherpro awning....junk!!

The trouble with some of these awnings, including mine, is that they are attached to the side of the coach. When they are extended, they have to go out over a slide, thus, they are almost horizontal. As noted above, they provide virtually no shade and water puddles in them. Clearly designed by a very smart engineer, who has never spent a day in an RV. Newer models are attached to the slide, they work fine.

I retract it.
At night, and in the rain, I only leave it out about 2'-3' depending
on the winds. Carefree does make a shade that slips into the
channel that hangs down and will give you a lot more shade.

I trimmed the folded edges and and I leave it rolled up and in
the awing year round.

Interesting you mention rolling it up in the awning.
We are in Florida, and facing east on our site. During the day, there is no shade under the awning, and everyone else is using one of the additional sun shades.
They also have their awnings "staked" down with tie down straps. I'd like the additional shade, but if I want to put the awning in at night, don't want to have to uninstall the sun shade every time we pull the awning in.
Our awning is mounted to the side of the coach, and no slide out on the area the awning covers, so normally it's good.
I'm heading to camping world this morning, so might see if they have them in stock.

I was looking at my Weather Pro yesterday for a solution to no shade facing west here in AZ. My thought was to attach some material to it to extend it down 3-6 feet. If it was thin enough, I'm thinking it could be rolled up with the awning.

They sell the pieces that hang down off the main awning at CW.

Thanks, but I wouldn't buy a light bulb from them I saw a roll of sunshade material at Sam's the other day. I'm going to grab a roll of that and see what happens

Sorry to laugh at your misfortune but those are some funny posts.
Our awnings are all manual and I never leave out over night. Why do they put awnings on MH's that don't go out far enough to give cover? Did you see them out when you did a final walk thru @ time of Purchase? That would have broke the deal for me.

spritz, the awning goes out as far as it is supposed to. The problem is, it does not have any downward angle to it. It goes straight out over the slide.

Everything in a motorhome is a compromise...no such thing as "one size fits all", and just like boats, there's no such thing as the "perfect" one. I'd trade exterior shade for interior room any day. I can easily add shade...space, not so much

IC I have noticed them at CG's mostly on bigger and newer MH's What is the purpose do they have?
I'm glad mine work the way there suppose to on both sides. I can open the windows and close the 2 little ones as you can see in the my Signature if it starts to rain. Those 2 little one's are really tight. Thanks

I'll confirm that, I had the roller break in half in a wind storm August 2012 in Nashville Lucky for me Insurance covered it. I didn't even get a chance to retract it and the automatic didn't work in time. I had to stand on a ladder and hold it up in the center while hitting the retract button I got it up and tied to get back to Southeastern PA also an A&E awning on a bounder Diesel 38n
