Electrical Problem

2001 Fleetwood Diesel Bounder 39Z
PowerTek PDC-1020 Converter/Inverter
Solar Panels

One 120V circuit alternates periods of off and on for no reason (mostly off).
House batteries charge from shore power but engine batteries discharge over time with nothing turned on.

Used external charger to bring engine batteries up to 13.5. Engine started easily.

Specialty Concepts Mark 15 panel shows:
- 12.7
- Charging (external charger off)
- Green indicator Full

On-board battery indicator panel shows:
- House at 12.7
- Engine at 13.5

The Heart Interface panel shows:
- Battery State at empty
- AC In
- DC Volts 12.5
- DC Amps <10
- Incoming Breaker Amps 30 (hook up supply is 30)
- Charge Light is lit
- Inverter Light flashes on and off (dead circuit does not correspond).

AC breakers all reading >117.8.
DC fuses (both sides) all reading >12.5

Wow you’re on board battery indicator is pretty much everything you need to read. So now you know what’s going into your batteries. You need to check what your batteries are excepting, you need a multi-meter across the top of them. I would think your house batteries should be 12.8 and engine a little less CHARGING from solar. Sunny day. Your solar panels should be charging both house and engine at a minimum of 200 watts depending on the size of your panels. Next hook up the shore power and see what the charge rate is as well, that will be a big number like 13.5 V because you’re using shore power. engine battery discharge, as above both house and engine should be charged at the same time. You must have something turned on in your coach that drawing from the engine battery that’s my best Guess. Or if you test the engine battery and less than 12.2 V it’s probably done. Hope this all makes sense. Bryan

I am addressing an AC problem on a 2000 Fleetwood Bounder 30z at this time that we just purchased. For me part of the problem is not having an AC wiring diagram. The culprit here was the vehicle was connected to 240 not 120.

As I walked through my problem this member #rpaldrich pointed out that the AC has two transfer switchs.

Now I do not know all your ins and outs however there appears to be separate problems.

1. Engine batteries from your description discharge after time
2. AC dropping in and out

Engine batteries
  • Generally speaking 13.5 VDC is a reading for a good battery. If less then as mentioned the battery is low.
  • I suggest you charge the battery and get the batteries back to 13.5 nominal VDC.
  • Then disconnect he engine batteries and see if they hold the charge
  • As mentioned you may have something on that is drawing the engine batteries down.
AC drops in and out
  • For me this may be my problem in that there are xfer switchs that appear to be on back of the breaker panel.
  • In my case that saved the vehicle as those are 120 VAC solenoids and when 240 VAC was presented at the actuator they failed to pass AC which saved the RV and all appliances
  • The dropping out of AC may be one of those actuators. As I worked to find my problem I found out that not all AC outlets went through the AC breaker panel. At this time I am in process of removing the breaker panel. From there I will be able to ascertain the connections from input to where they go on the interior by tracing the wires.
  • This would be so much easier if I had AC/DC wiring diagrams
I am doing this last part because I have partial AC. At present the bedroom AC outlets and all exterior AC outlets (in luggage bays) do not work but all other AC interior outlets and appliances all work and one of the xfer switchs is most probably the reason as I could not find a GFCI for this anywhere.

Hope this helps

I just picked up a top level wiring diagram and the xfer switch controls AC in from Shore or Generator. So if the AC is going in and out and you are on Shore power then that solenoid will make a clicking sound. If not then it is most probably not the problem.

If you are relying on house batteries to make AC from the Inverter then you could have either an inverter problem or low house batteries.

If none of that then you possibly have an Inverter/Charger problem

Check to see as Sanddog00 suggested having something on that is draining engine batteries

Good luck as I am striking out at this time
