Electrical short in accessory circuit

Circuit 3 in my 2006 Pace Arrow 36D shows a direct short when checked with an ohmmeter. All appliances have been removed from outlets but the 20A breaker opens when power is turned on. Appreciate suggestions on troubleshooting steps. Signal tracer won’t work because signal is grounded via the short.

Try using only one lead of the signal injector versus one lead to ground and the other lead on the line that is shorted.

It might radiate enough to chase the line down.

Since you should know which outlets and devices do not work with the breaker popped then you may need to pull each outlet out of the wall for inspection and while doing so you may find a junction box where a wire has worked loose from a wire nut.

Swap with a known good breaker.
Open each and every box in the circuit to inspect connections.

Since it is a 20 amp circuit that tells me it is not a receptacle circuit. What does this circuit control? A/C? fireplace? Microwave?

Look under the slide for pinched, torn, or melted wires.
That's if you have a slide.

How many outlets are effected???

Try to determine how they are dasy chained. Might be a logical progression but even if not if the outlets are not the type with the pressed in wires you may be able to disconnect ones that appear to be near the middle and use your ohmeter and signal tracer to find the direction of the short.

It can be a knuckle dragging back breaking exercise to chase to J boxes hidden behind things.

The outlets with those pressed in wires can be replaced with new ones for easier reassembly with ordinary tools. I have replaced one of the pressed in ones and will never attempt that again short of an emergency. Unless I find a cheap tool to do the job.

Use bright lights and your camera for investigating areas hard to reach. Often after dark using a headlight will give you a better view without areas being washed out with sunlight.
