Electronic shielding
Does anyone have or know if i can shield the he dimmer switches because of what they do to my Coleman hvac control. My thermocouple is located about 14” above the dimmer controls and the wires hang in the wall close to each other. If the dimmer is on, the thermostat gives all kinds of false readings, causing the heat or air to become intermittent. I know Fleetwood has always had some wiring issues especially with hvac control issues. I already have choke filters on the thermostat and was wondering about shielding the wires in the wall. Any help would be appreciated. 2005 0n 2004 Excursion Fleetwood 39L. What would i shield with?

A choke filter immediately came to mind as soon as I began to read your post until you said you already have them installed. How about removing the dimmer and replacing it with a regular switch ?

I don’t think my pad app is letting me post a pic, i can replace the dimmer for my halogens but my wife likes he new digital ones. I was just hoping there was some shielding material to stop the interference. Thanks

Stray RF fields can be hard to block. Shielding is more a art than a science too. Have you tried putting ferrite beads or a ferrite clamp across wires close to the dimmer? See link below for ideas and bypass capacitors too.

Another thought would be to take copper foil about the size of the dimmer pcb and place the copper foil into a plastic bag that will be close to the PC board- both sides but NOT shorting the PC board. Aluminum foil can be used to wrap wires. Again don't short anything out for obvious reasons.

Thanks. For all the reply’s. I cant tell you how hard it is to get my hand in a wall 1 and 1/2 inches thick with a hole almost 2x3” square. Trying the aluminum foil first. I ve learned much. Thanks

One thing you need to know about shielding material. If you install the aluminum foil or copper sheeting any shield is recommended to be physically grounded if not one but both top and bottom end of the wrap of shield.
