Engine access cover 06 Discovery

When I removed the carpeted floor cover over the engine the black material on the engine cover was bonded to the floor cover. I had to pry it up and some of it stuck and ripped. What is the black stuff for and can I just remove the part that bubbled up?

Bud,

That should have been a gasket between the frame and the black engine cover. If you don't have a good seal there you will probably here more noise and possibly get more dirt into your coach. I have had ours off several times and never had anything come apart. I guess you could just replace the seal with something else, maybe some seal putty, but remember this area gets pretty hot when you stop from driving.

Its not the gasket, its the black covering on top of the cover. The 4 screws that holds the cover down goes through this covering.
