Engine to battery negative issue

Hello all,
We have an American Coach, Spartan chassis RV that would not turn over with 2 new 31T batteries. I found a DC potential measured between the battery negative and engine block and also from battery negative to the chassis. Both enough to light a bulb time tester.

We connected a jumper cable from the battery negative to the negative of the starter and from the battery negative to the engine block and it started right up.

We, however, are still having issues with power lost in other areas; ie. the Onan QD10000 shows no indicator and will not start.

Has anyone had any issues similar or any idea where the battery negative connection to engine and chassis ground is supposed to be connected?

Engine to battery negative issue

On my Spartan I can raise back passenger side bay and itís right there. Does your genny run off chassis batteries or house? Did you have troubles before changing batteries?

Look at each cable end carefully. See any green oxidation...yes

Replace the cable/s accordingly. Would not hurt to also install a new engine to frame ground cable.

Resolved Engine Ground

I contacted Spartan and according to them that if the jumper went from the battery negative and enabled it to start, that the ECU, neutral safety, water in fuel, etc. were all bypassed.

We did have someone familiar with the RV come down and look at it and he resolved it, mysteriously in minutes. We had someone clean the corossion off the cable ends, chassis mnt. and starter. But the person who found the issue had said that a cable was left off the starter. That would have been the case since before the batteries were replaced and no one even touched the wiring.
It seemed like it was something else.

Anyway, all is back running including the genset and another issue where someone, a while back, had bypassed a power lug in the BCC to provide interior power.

Thank you all for contributing!!
