Entry steps

I'm seeking the wisdom from some of you seasoned rv'ers. Just picked up my 2017 pace 38k. When I turn off the two battery disconnects by the entry door, the steps will not retract when I close the door. Is this normal? On my gas Rv, I would turn off the battery disconnect when storing and the steps would still retract when closing the door.

If your gas RV only had one disconnect then the steps were powered from the chassis battery and you were only disconnecting the coach battery.
New coach with two disconnects ; everything shuts down.
If you need the steps in they will have to be retracted before you hit the disconnects, and you may require a step stool to exit the coach.

I keep a magnet by the door. When I am ready to turn off the battery disconnects, I put the magnet next to the magnetic receiver on the door jamb. The coach thinks the door is closed, and the steps retract. I turn off the batteries while holding the magnet there.

Do you have a engine disconnect? If so try turning it off.

Thanks for the responses. I like the extra magnet trick. I have two disconnects. One is labeled "main" and the other is "aux". They are both by the entry door. It doesn't matter if I turn off both or just one. Either one cuts off power to the steps.
