Well, I brought it back to the store I purchased it from, they load tested it and said it was perfect, not just good, perfect. So the battery is not the issue. So, as of right now, I'm done. I'm just gonna use it, enjoy it, and have fun with it. I just can't see spending this much free time searching for gremlins. Thanks for all the help though.

I mentioned the potential for bad grounds and such, but after rethinking the ONLY reason that battery would to 9V would either be a bad battery (still most likely) or a short circuit (bad starter).

I get your frustration. IF the battery actually is perfect as the store says, the only other explanation I can imagine is the starter. Ugh.

Ok, we'll today I managed to get my big butt under just far enough to get a pretty good look at the starter, from what I can see there are 2 smaller wires going to it that are for lack of a better word melted together right before the attach to the starter, other than that the starter a the big wire looks ok. Maybe those 2 wires are the cause of all my problems. Sorry if I sound somewhat goofy, but I know nothing about electric, or cars, or starters for that matter. But I think 2 wires melted together might be a problem.

What are the two little wires for?
Can the be fixed?
How hard will it be?

Thanks
Don

Sounds like solenoid wires maybe from switch to starter. If possible trace them back, I know you say you can't get under it, but maybe a buddy or wife can help. I would disconnect the battery before messing with any wiring, especially under the vehicle. I had a 91 Chevy pickup almost run over me, when I jiggled the starter cable and it tried to start. Wires melted together is not good, one is possibly a hot wire and the other is a ground.
