First trip out with ole girl.

Well, I took my first trip with the RV this week. After making countless repairs for the last 2 months, I was sure SOMETHING was gonna break on the way or way back. BUT, she made it from Florida to the mountains in North Carolina and back.....1200 miles.....never skipped a beat. I was pretty proud of her. I haven't really done anything to the engine besides a service, and was expecting to lose a hose or a belt....something...but all went good. I did experience a "burp" a couple times. 2 times on the way up, and about 10 times on the way home. When I hit a good bump in the road, A dash light would come on, "Do not Shift" and I would lose all throttle response. It only does it for a split second. It does it so fast , I couldn't even catch what it said, til about the 3rd or 4th time it came on. Anybody ever have that light up??? Aside from that issue, she did great. Even turned my heaters on up there. 1 works and 1 does not. Right before we left to go, I had a new inverter installed and 2 new front air bags with a alignment. The guy who installed the air bags said the rears were as bad as the fronts, but I wasn't worried about losing a rear bag as much as losing a front bag. The rears held up. their next to be replaced. And all my air leaks. It only holds air for about an hour. Slowly but surely I'm bringing her back. While I was in NC, me and my daughter installed a new 40" TV up front. I averaged about 9.7 MPG, which is about average, I guess, with my 1997 Fleetwood Discovery with the 5.9 cummins. That's doing 70 MPH all the way up and back. I got the feeling I was driving an antique after seeing all the $300,000 RV's on the road. But hey, She's just as good to me, and the title is in my file cabinet.

Congratulations on the successful round trip! Having an older coach, I understand the anxiety that comes with the first trip after repairs. I can't help you with the loss of throttle response, but I'm certain that several of the fine folks on the forum will have some valuable advice. Have a great day and a great next trip.

Our previous coach was a 98 Born Free and we never had any mechanical issues, our current coach is a 2007 Newmar Bay Star and the mechanical issues have fortunately been very nominal. We love the older coaches but agree some of the newer models look outstanding. We plan on moving from a gasser to a diesel once we retire and will probably go with a coach in the 3 to 5 year age range. The warning light coming on and off sounds like a loose connection.

I agree about the loose connection. Some say it might have something to do with the cruise control, which does not work, and I was messing with while driving. My idle also went from 600rpm to 900rpm during the trip. No trips planned in the near future. So, now I will get to all the little issues the RV has. All major issues . that I know of. have been addressed. The front heater, air leaks, rear air bags, and a few other items need to be done. I'm just so happy we made it up and back without being put on the side of the road.

I have a 2008 Discovery.
It has a high idle speed on the cruse control. Push the set button in when on idle. RPM will increase to about 1000. Turn of cruse to set to normal rpm.
