Fleetwood Discovery 2018
Good afternoon,
Well, we made it back from our 3 month trip, but it still drops below freezing at night here in Ohio. I blew out the water lines, however, I'm not sure how to make sure the water pump is winterized, nor can I find anything relative to winterizing the washer / dryer. I think I can probably get by with leaving the furnace on, but I'm unsure about that.
I'm looking for some advice here on a couple of questions:
1. With the furnace on, how cold does it have to get before I need to be concerned about the water pump and washer?
2. Is it better to have the slides in to reduce area size for heating while not in use? Will the heat still keep things from freezing with the slides in?
Thanking you in advance !!!!!

We run into this every year because we end the season late and start early. I do keep the slides in to minimize the space we need to heat. Although the temps are supposed to dip again this week, they won't be cold enough to cause you any major problems as long as you keep the inside a above freezing.
I would keep the furnaces set around 40, and you might consider putting one of those small personal/desktop heaters in the wet bay to make sure it stays warm. If you leave the power on in the Coach, things like the fridge and electronics can produce some heat and keep the inside warmer than the basement (and keep the furnace from kicking on).

Thank you for your response.
I thought maybe keeping the slides in would be beneficial. I will put a small heater in the wet bay.

How far below freezing does it get and what is the daytime high?
If your temp is 20’s and 40’s unlikely anything will freeze up
Several days with a high in the low 30’s, you can have issues but if the high is in the 40’s it’s notmcold enough to freeze

Thanks for your response !!!!
We are running in the 20's at night and upper 30's to low 40's during the day. I guess I get a little concern when the temp drops below freezing. I have the furnace set at 53 degrees and a heater in the wet bay. I'm sure everything is ok.
I guess I'm surprised that Fleetwood didn't put a quick siphon line in to pull some RV antifreeze through the pump. I'm going to have to come up with a fix for this. Seems crazy to have to pour 5-6 gallons of RV antifreeze into the fresh water tank just to run the water pump. I'd prefer no anti freeze, but that might not be possible.

I would keep the slides in when parked and not in use, mostly to reduce slide awning wear.
If I wanted to pump antifreeze the easy solution would be to disconnect the water tank outlet hose and suck it in there. That would also help drain more water out off the tank.

Most RV mfr's don't install a winterization kit. Based on where you're located, pop over to Craig Smith in Galion & pick one up. You really don't want to waste the pink stuff pouring it into the fresh tank. Plus it'll take FOREVER to get it out of there.
If you don't use it this year, you'll be ready for next winter.
