Fleetwood Southwind tires

HelloI have a 1989 Southwind and am in need of new tires. Fronts are not any trouble as they are 225R70-19.5 and plentiful. The rears on the vehicle are. 8R19.5. These seem to be less common and more expensive. Some sites suggest replacing them with 225R70-19.5 but my tire guy says they will rub together because of the difference in profile. I am in Canada and these 8R70-19.5 tires are around $500/each and are hard to find.
Just wonder if anyone els3 has run in this issue and what they may have done to resolve.
Thanks,
Barry Davidson

Your tire guy may be right, or he may just be making a general statement about changing the size of a dual pair. Rubbing is a distinct possibility so the profile of the tire has to be analyzed carefully. The information is available, but in the end it's always a judgement call and he may not be willing to do the research or shoulder the risk if he is wrong. 225/70R19.5 works for a lot of applications, but not every one of them. So, your choice is to do the homework and maybe save $$, or pay the premium price.

A quick google search reveals that an 8R19.5 tire has a section width of 8" while a 225R70-19.5 tire has a section width of 8.9".

Slip a sized spacer adapter between each of the (2) rear duels.

Thanks. I guess that tells me what needs to be done.

After the inner wheel is put on the adapter is put in place (just like wheel) then the outer wheel is put on.

Aren't the 225R70-19.5's also a different diameter than the 8R19.5's?
