Floating Power Gear Fluid tank

On my 2017 Fleetwood Bounder 33C the Power Gear Leveler Hydraulic pump and reservoir is mounted horizontally in one of the storage bays. There is nothing supporting the fluid tank and below it is open to the road.

My concern with this is that it likely bounces about while driving and it seems that it is susceptible to being hit or damaged by something coming up from the road.

Does anyone know if this is configured like this for a specific reason?

I would like to support it with a 1/8" metal plate under the tank to support it and protect it from below.

Anyone else done this?

That floating tank is an engineering issue. Many have failed and leaked.
Yes a metal plate over the hole and then something like the pink foam insulation from Home Depot, between the tank and the plate. The tank need a springy cushion support.
You may have to shim up the motor/valve body assembly to get a spongy support under the tank.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. It was a pretty tight fit when I slid the steel plate under it so shimming pump is a good idea. Will try a small amount of foam under it.
