Bounder: Front window blind

Hello, I am a new member and I have a question. I own a Fleetwood Bounder 35k.The front window does not work properly. When I try to lower it, it will go down about 1" and quit. by repeating this it will go all the way to the dash. this process takes about 10 minutes. Will someone please help

I have the same rig, 2013, and that is not how it should work. Pressing and holding the button should take it all the way up or down. Sounds like you need a trip to the dealer.

You might have an MCD motorized shade. When you try to lower it, is your engine running? If so, that's a safety measure that was programmed in so you can't run it down while driving & block your view.

If it's stopping short with the engine off, the levels might need reset. Look in the packet of literature you got with the coach. There should be rise/lower setting directions for the shade. If not, you can download it from MCD. It's fairly easy to do (I've done it). You'll just need 2 people to do it because one has to be operating the switch while the other is holding onto the little wired microswitch (probably partially hidden in your A-pillar, near the top of the windshield).

Check the switch itself first.

Unless FW has switched , mine was an Auto Motion Shade. I agree with checking the switch. It may require some tuner spray ( or whatever you call it. I forget ).

Most likely it's an AutoMotion shade. They have limit switches built in for both the "full-up" and "full-down" positions, and you can contact AutoMotion to get insttructions on how to reset those switches. But, chances are good that it is the motor itself that is the problem. They chose a motor that is barely adequate for the job and as a result it tends to go bad. Unfortunately they won't sell you a new motor - they want to sell you a whole new shade. Mine started working like yours - moving about an inch at a time, ans was intermittent. Eventually it got to the point where it would only move maybe 1/4" at a time, and fortunately it was in the up position when it quit altogether!

I found a company that sells a better motor, that needs some minor modification to get it to work, and have written up an app note that I can email to anyone who wants it. About a year ago it cost me just under $100 and a few hours of my time to replace my motor with one that has twice the lifting power of the original. It's still working great!

Why would anyone put the shade down all the way while driving? We use it as a morning/evening Sun shade but only partially down. Much wider/safer/easier to use than the narrow black shades provided especially when the sun is coming in at a angle. And I did get rid of the interlock so the key has to be "On" to make it work when sitting still.

I don't think anybody is advocating using the powered shade in the fully lowered position while driving, but many of us DO use it as a sun visor while driving. In my Bounder, Fleetwood saw fit to install visors in front of both front seats. The problem with the is that in order to reach them one must release their seat belt and stand up - they are too far away from the seats to be usable. So, rather than trying to stand up while driving into the sun it's easier to simply reach down to the switch within easy reach and lower the front shade enough to block the sun.

And, Fleetwood also decided that in order to adjust the powered visor the ignition key must be in at least the ACC position. So, once you're parked and enjoying life you need to keep the ignition key handy to lower the shade when desired, and again to raise it. Another thing I "fixed" - I moved the power line for the shade from a switched power source to a constant power source. Now I don't need to turn the key to ACC to raise or lower the shade - just push a button.

I used mine all the time as a sun visor for the reasons Alan mentioned.

You most likely need to reset the stops. I have a Thor MH and I contacted then and they sent me the directions to change them.

The front windshield MCD -DUO shades currently installed on a lot of coaches are intended to do two things. One shade is a for blocking the sun. It also blocks the ability for people to look into your coach when you are at the CG. The other shade is designed to completely block out the light. The sun shade is intended to be used as a driver/passenger shade while driving. It is installed so while the engine is running the shade will only go down about 1/3 of the distance so you can not block your view while driving. When parked it can be lowered all the way.

When we ordered the 2014 WBGO we did not have the standard visors installed. We've had them on other coaches because we didn't realize how worthless they were. They were to small and to far away to do any good but they were automatic. That means that the visors came down all the time while driving. It didn't matter if it was sunny, raining, day or night they just vibrated and automatically came down.
