Frontier 34GT interior cockpit noises
Hiya, folks
Well, we have almost six months of ownership which includes (8) close by successful "expeditions" under our belt.
Daunting doesn't seem to completely cover my description of our ownership. There sure is/was a lot to learn and I can't help but think I am slowly but surely fixing issues from the manufacturing process and any issue brought about by the past owners very short usage period.
(We bought it used w/5701 miles on the clock, genny at 34 hours and it is a 2022 model year).
We have enjoyed our trips immensely and know we made the right decision!
Now the crux of this thread:
My wife (co-pilot) has been complaining of wind related noise that irritates her when the coach approaches and exceeds 40 MPH. I can't hear it from the driver's side. She thinks it's annoying and doesn't hold back when travelling....
She thought it was coming from the window just behind the front access door. I checked the window's seals and lubricated them to no avail. I used a feeler gauge to check the sealing and it was tight - the rubber seal leaves a nice clear "footprint". I don't know if the window can flex away from the body under road conditions so I can't comment on if the seal's integrity under way.
I even fashioned a custom cut 2" piece of foam that snugly fits between the interior screen and the inside face of the glass to reduce any chance of window seals leaking under way. Just enough pressure to insure the window is "pre-loaded" and to act as a baffle (reducing potential amphitheater style noise increases. Personally, I can hear a reduction in some wind noise but NOT the noise that irritates her.....
The way the passenger seating is placed (with the DS slide in), she does sit in an area that could have normal road noises amplified.
Maybe I am looking in the wrong place. Could I have noise emanating from the top DS slide seal area? I do have some work to be done to the top Slide out seal as it has come loose.
Any suggestions?
Anybody else experiencing this on their Frontier 34GT?
I want to duly note that there is quite a bit more frontal noise whistling up high above windshield on either side (sporadic and not continuous) and some noise from around the front entry door. More noise than I expected but as aerodynamically optimized (NOT) this thing is, it is like a brick hurtling down the interstate at 65 MPH !!! Just envision the Shuttle landing!
Anyhoo, thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.
Wayne

Mirrors, awning arms, doors, slide seals, steps all can make noise from wind as you cruise along. Try sitting in the passenger seat yourself.

Wind noise
We have a 22 Frontier 36SS same window same issue. It is worse when there is any crosswind occurring. I noticed the window screw close mechanism is at the bottom and seems to create an angle as the top hinge is not flush. So I added some narrow and soft self adhesive seal material down both sides to augment the OEM seal. This helped a lot but not a total fix still some noise in crosswinds. Just a bad place to put that window I guess.

Thank you for acknowledging my post.
The local RV repair facility is saying that the seal may need replacement and it is probably only available as a unit inclusive of the glass - which sounds like BIG $$$ for something that may not fix the problem.
Can you identify the material you used and snap a quick picture so I can repeat what you did? Much appreciated if you do!
The foam "baffle" I installed temporarily blocks my vision which just isn't safe.

I have a 2005 38N, DP. One things that helped was to install covers over the the weep holes at the bottom on the windows.
Also, I insulated the entry door. The door had no insultation at all.

Window Noise
Here is what I did. As you can see in the photo the window is slightly bowed out so the standard seal doesn’t do much. I just augmented the seal with some aftermarket seal from the top to the lower 1/4 and it has helped. Good luck!

Update
That last post suggesting additional weatherstripping got me to thinking....
They stated that the glass could be seen to "bow".
I took a straightedge and checked the flatness of my closed window (with OEM seal only) and the glass was bowed 1/8th inch in two foot! The wall is flat. The window frame is flat.
Maybe this is a manufacturers defect?
The glass isn't very thick.
I am going to "redneck cure" the potential gap that could occur under way (coach speed higher than 40 mph) with a judicious application of duct tape.
If the noise abates, there lies the problem.
(Maybe the noise coming from the copilot might diminish too!!!)
But a piece of glass that bows that easily? Wow.
Quandary is if I opt to replace the whole window frame, glass and seal - what are the chances the problem will just repeat and I wasted a whole lot of time and $$$?
Anybody out there happen to check how flat their glass really is?
My ultimate, least costly cure (really the last ditch) is to silicone that window SHUT!!! (Hate to do that.)
Thx
Wayne

I would use duck tape first to seal window first to see if this is the problem before using silicone to seal window. This way your not sealing a window up that you may want to use in the future if this is not the problem. What do you think?

If the duct tape cures the noise, both sources , then I would look at replacing the seal with a soft one, or just adding something under the existing seal and give it a try.

Yeppers...that's my plan.
I have this exact window in the bathroom and it too is bowed when closed. But it isn't buffeted with the wind up front. And, no one sits next to that one going down the road.
Thanks for the help.

It doesn't sound like you have dual pane windows. Do you?
If not, going to dual pane windows up front can really quiet the driver area down.

Nope and I wish that it did have dual pane windows - at least in this location.

If you decide to replace the window consider it. I'd think the hole in the wall is the same size.

We’ve been researching this unit for our next coach, 36SS floor plan. Over on the owners group on FB a few mentioned a recall or service bulletin on the passenger window being the culprit for the noise as it flutters. Apparently the fix is a window of the sister coach from Fleetwood. 2 piece Nautica passenger window.
May want to look into this as a permanent fix. If we buy a 25 we will make sure this is addressed before delivery.
