Question Full wall slide problems?

In my search for a tag axle diesel pusher I have come across a nice 2008 American Coach with a full wall slide. I am somewhat Leary because of such a large hole in the side of the coach and the functionality of such a long slide. Has anyone had experience with these full wall slide and are they more problematic than having the 2 slides on one side?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Virtually all ACs now come with FWSs, so there are many on the road. I don't know if they have more problems than the shorter slides....just bigger and more motors.

What I can share about a FWS is how much we've enjoyed the openness of the coach when deployed. We've had many comment on how much room there is when opened up. Fortunately we have had very little issues with ours, however I've read several posts about others having problems. Just like other things in our coaches. One thing to check is how can you get around with the slides in?

2015 FWS. Engine must be ON and over 13.6v to move it.

I pull my 08 FWS in without the engine running. Just plugged into shore.

The "big hole" isn't anything you need to worry about, but the multiple motors needed to move the big slide is a potential source of problems because they need to operate in perfect synchronization or that long slide will cock sideways. When they work they are fine, but you can get screwy problems if they get out of sync. Just one more complex thing that can go wrong, and one that takes some skills and a slide sync tool to fix.

Full wall slides are common these days and you don't hear a lot of screaming, so the risk is probably relatively low. But if you do have a problem, finding somebody competent to diagnose & repair might be a hassle.

You need a repair service with a Teach Pendant to get the FWS back in sync. Mine cost $200 at a dealer a few years ago.

When we purchased our 2007 American Eagle 42F last month, the seller explained that the FWS was catching at the top. He adjusted it but it was still catching and then would release with a loud bang. I got it back to our factory (We're a 5th wheel manufacturer) and could see that he adjusted it the wrong way. I readjusted it and it has been working fine. I did find that it's important to have the coach level before running the room in.

I was surprised that the slides won't operate without the key on. That's contrary to our Travel Supreme, which would only allowed room operation when the key is OFF. Travel Supreme's theory was probably that they didn't want the ability to accidently operate the slide while traveling... which makes sense

The FWS in my 2007 Endeavor will only operate with the engine off. It is hydraulic instead of motor driven. I'm not yet sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. No problems so far but I've only had it a couple of months. The amount of room it provides is nothing short of amazing compared to our 96 Tiffin with no slides.
